Sloppy Taco Palace is one of Orlando’s hidden treasures. Not many people know about it, but those who do most likely feel the same as I do when I walk into this local dive bar/eatery. If the name of this place doesn’t already have you intrigued before hearing about the menu options, the layout of the restaurant definitely will!
Sloppy Taco Palace (also known as STP):Β http://www.stporlando.com/
STP has the “hole-in-the-wall” feel to me because the location in Metro West is so random, and when you walk inside…the turn up is realer than a Taco Tuesday on Wall Street. This place has a live band Thursday’s and Saturday’s at 10pm. They have a double happy hour where they have $2 Yeunglings, and if you’re a tequila (or should I say tekillya) lover like I am, they have a deal on shots also! STP is poppin’ until 2:00 AM every night!
I met up with my good friend Carolina for some munchie food and we decided to try a few things and split them all. My best friends Kristin, Mechelle and I used to come for drinks before I decided to finally try the food. For our starter to the starter, we ordered Chips, Salsa, and Queso; the basic girl starter kit.
The server brought us both mild and hot salsa, but alone the two are quite mediocre. I found myself searching for more than just spice, like chunky tomatoes, and red onions. The queso wasΒ okay. It had more of a nacho cheesy feel. I think they should consider adding a queso and meat dip to the menu though.
After the queso, salsa, and chips, we ordered the Mac and Cheese bites which came with a Chipotle Ranch dipping sauce:
BEWARE: these Mac and Cheese bites are so addicting! Make sure you actually dip these bites into the Chipotle Ranch for the full experience. I’m unsure of the cheese used in the bites, but whatever it is isΒ DANK!
The entree that we split: Sloppy Sliders.
Let me just say that the word “sloppy” is VERY necessary in the name because cheese WILL get all over your hands! You have the choice of mini burgers or grilled chicken, so we got half and half. The mini burger meat was a bit dry for my liking and surprisingly enough the cheese didn’t take away from the dryness of the patty. The grilled chicken slider was a bit better in my opinion. The chicken was (sorry for those who hate this word) moist and seasoned, the sautΓ©ed onions gave it a nice crunch, and the cheese…well, it’s CHEESE! They also have the option of sliders that are stuffed with pico and feta cheese, so I would give this a try next.
Overall, if you’re hungover, have the munchies, or are just in a “YOLO” mentality, give STP a try. If not for the food, for the cheap drinks!
I love you STP!
