All of Me Loves All The Food

Happy Friday People!!!

So last Wednesday evening, I came across an Instagram account that was all about sandwiches aka my soulmate (jk babe). The Instagram account is called @DeliFreshThreads. I browsed through the pictures and noticed that he was going to be at a local restaurant where I’m a regular, Toasted!¬†(which I’ve reviewed once before, check it out if you’re interested in stopping by for the perfect grilled cheese) along with a FREE (yes, FREEEEEE)¬†beer pairing sponsored by the Nona Brew Crew.¬†I decided I’d check it out, so I headed to Toasted Lake Nona after work.

Upon walking in, obviously the first thing I notice is the sign displaying the special sandwich of the week:

Once I walked in, I was instantly greeted by the sandwich king himself. We chatted it up about my blog, his love for sandwiches, and all of his sandwich escapades. Basically this guy created a website for his clothing brand all because of his love for sandwiches. If that isn’t true love, what even is love? You can check out his clothing here.

After chatting it up about all the great sandwich spots in town, we went to check out the beer pairing…aka THE FREE BEER.¬†

 After signing in at a booth, I was given a free bottle opener (which I needed desperately), a punch card slip, and a few little stickers.

¬†The most important thing here though is obviously the punch card. There were three beers that were offered on this punch card. It just so happened to be our lucky day because they had extra beer, so we got more than expected. The beers that were offered were the Killer Whale Cream Ale (pictured below), Duke’s Brown Ale, and Mad Manatee India Pale Ale (IPA). All of these beers are sold at local stores that sell beer (this includes Publix and ABC).

¬† The Killer Whale Cream Ale was light and refreshing. For people who aren’t really big beer drinkers, I think this beer would be perfect for you.¬†Pictured above is the Duke’s Brown Ale. This has more of a heavy taste, but still obviously lighter than any guinness. I’d compare it to the Newcastle Brown Ale. The vendors of Nona Brew Crew suggested that we mix the Cream Ale and the Brown Ale, and it turns into a sweeter ale. I loved this idea because it lightened the heaviness in the Duke’s Brown. Not pictured is the IPA. I’m not an IPA person, but Mad Manatee’s wasn’t too hoppy, so it was tolerable. Still not my favorite, but I’m sure if you’re into the hops and IPA’s you’d love it.

This night was one of the colder nights in Orlando where it was in the low 40’s (yes, that’s cold for Florida lol), so Toasted was courteous enough to bring out cups of hot creamy tomato soup to warm us up while we got our brew on (FO FREE). If you haven’t tried their tomato soup, I’d definitely suggest dipping your grilled cheese in there for an extra flavor boost!

So 5 beers and 10 frozen fingers later, we made our way inside for the sandwich pairing. Like I said earlier, the special sandwich of the day was the Street Taco grilled cheese. The sandwich originally came with pulled pork, jalape√Īo jack cheese, and a red onion, cilantro, jalape√Īo salsa. I don’t eat pulled pork, so I asked for chicken instead, and everything else the same. The concept of this sandwich was really cool because your average grilled cheese tastes nothing like a taco. Toasted doesn’t give you average ANYTHING, so I wasn’t surprised when I took a bite and loved every flavor profile it hit. I even squeezed the lime wedge on for the extra touch (worth it).

¬† I haven’t yet talked about the secret menu item I discovered, but you can create your own cheese fries at Toasted too!!!!!!! You can choose whether or not you want truffle fries, or regular fries. Then you choose your cheese, which can be any cheese they have available in the store. I chose gouda (hint: their periodic table of cheese on the wall shows what cheeses are available). I added bacon for the extra touch because…why not? They’re damn good and I highly suggest you try them!
Overall this event was a cool opportunity to get FREE BEER, network with some local foodies, and indulge at Toasted (again). I should seriously just consider paying rent at Toasted, I’m there at least once a month! If you haven’t been there yet, I seriously am questioning your existence. Just kidding, but really get your asses out there and get yourself a grilled cheese and fall in love all over again!

Vietnamese New Year = Street Food Galore!

I’m back!!!! & here to stay ūü§ó

I’m sorry I’ve neglected my blog for any followers who actually read my posts, but I promise I’ll be posting more often from here on out.

So recently I joined a whole new little world on Facebook where local foodies post about new places to eat, local foodie events coming up, and even recipes or places to grocery shop. Needless to say, I’ve been hooked since I became a member of the group. Say what you want, but it’s definitely a safe haven for us foodies who constantly talk about food. Anyhow, they created an event called the Vietnamese New Year Street Food festival at the Central Florida Fairgrounds. This festival was held to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year and had everything from shopping, games, art, and you guessed it…FOOD! When I learned about this festival, I knew I had to attend. I’ve said this a million times, but I’m seriously obsessed with Asian cuisine. I swear I must’ve been Asian in a previous life because it’s what I always find myself craving (if it’s not pizza), or wanting to cook.

I met up with my good friend Roderick and boyfriend and we frolicked through the fairgrounds exploring and most importantly EATING our way through the Vietnamese New Year!

The Best of Trader Joe’s

Happy New Year, Foodies!

Let’s start this new year off on the right foot by saving some money and opening your world to Trader Joe’s if you haven’t already! TJ’s changed my way of grocery shopping back in 2012. I usually opted for the more convenient grocery stores, like Publix or Target. But once I stepped foot into the Mecca of all grocery stores, I haven’t turned¬†back.

Trader Joe’s is my favorite place to grocery shop because their prices just cannot be beat. They offer products that are organic, vegan, gluten-free, and overall everything is cheaper!¬†Almost everything is branded by Trader Joe’s, which is why their products are cheaper than most grocery stores.

Trader Joe’s has a large variety of items you can choose from. Beginning with beautiful flowers you can decorate your home with, to organic fruits and vegetables, they have most things you’ll need to complete your grocery shopping. They even have samples of some of their finger foods, coffee, tea, and if you’re lucky they give out samples of popcorn while you wait to check out!

During my grocery shopping yesterday, I decided to compile a list of the groceries I thought were worth buying at TJ’s. This doesn’t include ALL the things I love, as some of these things I already had at home.

First of all, their unique grocery bags allow you to recycle and reuse them. They don’t use plastic bags, but brown paper bags imprinted¬†with their logo.¬†unnamed

All of these groceries were only $81.65! As you can see, I literally bought everything from dairy, to produce, and pantry items (besides the meat, I already had some).

One of the newest things I’ve picked up from TJ’s is their BBQ rub and seasoning. I’m intrigued by big flavors, and this seasoning grabbed my attention. I’ve heard wonderful things about it from the TJ employees, so I had to have it. I also picked up some Himalayan pink salt crystals built conveniently with a grinder for seasoning. This salt is the best option to use for cooking. It is the purest form of salt there is! Please get rid of that horrible table salt and replace it with some Himalayan pink salt!

Trader Joe’s has the original buttermilk pancake batter, however this pancake mix can give things a kick! All you have to do is add water, throw in some chocolate chips, and you have yourself some fancy ass pancakes!

I’m just obsessed with peanut butter, so I had to have these granola bars as a treat whenever I’m craving something a little naughty.

The easiest thing to make for anyone (this is truly for college students who are too lazy to ever make themselves dinner) is a box of pasta with a jar of your favorite pasta sauce. Opt for the better version of pasta with this organic brown rice quinoa noodles!

I just love Asian cuisine, so this is necessary to dress up a salad when I’m feeling Asian. Spinach, chicken, shredded carrots, green onions, and a little bit of this dressing? Killer.

Mexican night calls for some of this spicy black bean dip! You can spread this onto a wrap, or serve it in dip form, I’m obsessed with this bean dip!

Like I’ve said a million times before, Asian cuisine has my heart. This fish sauce is so necessary for your pantry when it comes to cooking up some good Asian dishes! I use this in a homemade pad thai sauce with spaghetti squash. Also it’s way cheaper than Publix’s version!

Last but not least, if you have a furry child, TJ’s offers plenty of treats for them too! The boyfriend picked up this box of assorted flavored treats. Very cheap, and my pup loves them! I usually go for the grain-free treats, but sometimes it’s okay for Blaze to cheat too.

These TJ goodies are not the only great things that they have to offer, so please go explore this grocery store. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

More cheese, PLEASE!

Happy Almost-Christmas Foodies!

I know I’ve been a little missing in action on my blog recently, but fear no more, I’ll be back in full force from now on!

So while I was gone, I had the privilege (yes, I would consider this a privilege) of hanging with my very talented friend Jomy (click on her name to see her awesome blog for fashion, makeup reviews, outfit ideas, or to just to see how cute she is). We both agreed that a catch-up/indulging session was long overdue, so we decided to meet up at a local restaurant here in Orlando, FL called Toasted. 

Toasted has two locations, one in Winter Park, and their newest location in Lake Nona. I stumbled upon their website on Yelp, so we decided to head over to the Lake Nona location and give it a shot.

Now I know you’re probably thinking “How amazing could a restaurant that revolves around a grilled cheese¬†really be?” Well, let me just begin by saying that Toasted will change your opinion, and FAST!

I know at this point in a post, if vegans/vegetarians/gluten-free foodies are reading and still haven’t seen anything that caters to their needs, they’ll ignore the rest of the post. Alas, Toasted DOES cater to your needs as well. They offer an entire vegan/gluten-free menu!

Upon entering the restaurant, it’s already aesthetically pleasing to the eye, as the walls are a vibrant scarlet color, and there’s a Periodic Table of CHEESE!¬†e613f1ab-ea34-4e61-8f70-731a807f6999

I loved this little feature because it’s nerdy, and a real foodie could really sit there and read the entire wall for a good 10 minutes. Another cute feature the restaurant has is instead of order numbers, they go by the¬†cheese “element”:d0ff67cd-c0ff-4df6-9349-0cc9c02485b2

Now I really couldn’t decide on what to order because when a restaurant has so many tasty options, I get overwhelmed and get a serious case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and think that I’ll miss out on trying something amazing. However, the employees that work at the registers helped me decide by offering ideas on how to add a little zing to the menu items. They also have a few craft beer selections. Jomy and I decided we would split our orders in half so we could each try something different without over-indulging. Jomy went with the Southern Comfort (pictured below) which was a burger served on a locally sourced topped with cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, housemade BBQ sauce, and MAC & CHEESE. Most would think this burger is really overwhelming and difficult to eat. It may be because we split our orders, which allowed me to fully indulge in my half of the burger. Everything tasted so fresh! The most important part is that I didn’t feel disgusting after eating here. The food wasn’t really greasy (especially for it being a burger topped with all those fat ingredients (YOLO)). ¬†This does¬†happen quite often though, especially after ordering¬†fatty foods. Who really goes to a restaurant to order a salad that you could EASILY make at home for half the price? Not I.

Which brings me to what I ordered at Toasted. I figured if I came to a place that revolves around a grilled cheese, I’m getting a damn grilled cheese! SO, after 10 minutes of going back and forth with the servers, I ordered the Truffle Melt with a side of Mac &¬†Cheese and had to get a brew to pair.¬†¬†fa617a7c-504c-4b04-9843-87bcccffd1fa

I went with the Floridian, Funky Buddha. This brew is locally brewed here in Florida. It’s a Hefeweizen, which is usually pretty light, citrusy, and golden. And it has a cool little message on all the bottle caps:14fccc63-8327-4451-83c9-bc308b88ede5

FINALLY, here is the Truffle Melt…

Do you SEE that cheese? Do ¬†you see how perfectly that bread is toasted? The Truffle Melt was made up of Havarti cheese, truffle oil, arugula, and fresh ground pepper. As the server suggested, I added applewood smoked bacon. The crust on this sandwich is incredible. If you don’t get the perfect crust, I wouldn’t even label your sandwich a “grilled cheese”. Perfectly TOASTED,¬†perfectly cheesy, perfectly PERFECT!

The Mac & Cheese is made up of Jarlsberg, sharp Cheddar, and Gruyere cheese. That amazing toasted crust they achieve on their sandwiches is also on the Mac & Cheese. It was pretty good, but since it was already on the burger Jomy and I split, I was over eating it LOL.

There are SO many different combinations at Toasted, I know I’ll ¬†be back again to try more. I give Toasted 5 stars. The employees are so friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is cool and clean, awesome tunes playing in the background, and primarily, the FOOD IS AWESOME! ¬†Plus, Jomy and I stayed chatting for over an hour, and their employees didn’t care the least bit. So in conclusion, give Toasted a try if you’re into prime-tasting food!

Dear God, Thank you for tacos. Amen!

What is it about tacos that we all love? Is it the crunchy shell? The way you can get every component of the taco into one bite? The fact that they are the epitome of eye candy when it comes to food?

I love anything and everything that has to do with a taco. So if you want to persuade me to go and dine with you, just mouth the word “taco” at me and I’m there!

My two favorite cuisines thus far are Asian and Mexican cuisine. You can imagine the happiness I felt when I learned that the place we were going to grub at was a place that infused all of your classic Mexican dishes with an Asian twist!

Tako Cheena

I love you so much, Tako Cheena! This little hole-in-the-wall restaurant is in the Milk District near Downtown Orlando, FL. My homies Damien and Sharon told me about this place, and I was immediately down to try their food, especially when I learned that the owners also owned Pom Pom’s Teahouse (which is just miles away from Tako Cheena, in Downtown Orlando.

Tako Cheena has the feeling of a restaurant, with the speed and prices of a food truck. This place also offers vegan/vegetarian options for all you non-meat eaters out there also!

Just by taking a look at the menu, I honestly wanted to order it all. The items listed on the menu are not all that they have either. After ordering, I learned that they had specials written on a board by the registers which included a variety of¬†arepas and a few¬†specialty “takos”.¬†

After a good 15 minutes, I finally decided to go with three tacos, and split a dessert with the boyfriend.

The first taco I got was the Tom Yum Mojo Shrimp Tako. This taco is infused with latin and asian flavors and is topped with a slaw, scallions, and cilantro. unnamed-12

The flavors in this tako made my mouth and stomach so freaking happy. This was actually my favorite tako. The marinade is what did it for me most. It’s tangy and savory and everything you want in a bite. YUM!

The next tako I chose was the Korean Beef tako which came with mixed cabbage, sesame, cilantro, and a kimchi slaw.

My favorite part about this tako was probably the kimchi. I love the crunch that it gave the tako more than any other component.

The last tako I got was the Thai Peanut Chicken tako. This tako came with mixed cabbage, scallions, and peanuts. unnamed-13

I actually thought this tako would be my favorite, however I really enjoyed the Tom Yum shrimp tako most. This taco lacked a little bit of flavor, so as you guessed, I added hot sauce to it.

Their hot sauces aren’t just your typical sriracha and Chalua sauces.The sauce I went with was the Sweet Chili and Ghost Pepper sauce. It is definitely spicy (thanks to the ghost pepper), but not overwhelming for my taste. It gave the tako the kick it needed!

 After completely stuffing my face with these takos, my boyfriend insisted on ordering one of the hot dogs they had on the menu, so he went with the Korean hot dog (which is a Chinese sausage). unnamed-6

This hot dog came with kimchi, cabbage, spicy mayo, cilantro and sesame seeds. It wasn’t what I thought it would be and lacked some flavor also. I guess I’ll stick to the tako’s as the name of the restaurant IS TAKO Cheena!

Finally, for the cherry on top of my tastebuds going cray, Jeremy ordered Fried Crispy Churros which came with a caramel dipping sauce.

The churros definitely aren’t pleasing to the eye, but they are so warm, so crunchy, and with the sauce they definitely satisfied the sweet craving we had after eating so much spicy food. I would’ve sprinkled some cinnamon and confectionary sugar on top, but that’s because I’m a little extra sometimes (lol).

Tako Cheena will definitely take my money more than just this one time. I’ll be back to try their arepas soon!

Josie’s Pizza…SO. MUCH. YUM!

I hope everyone is recovering from stuffing their faces with all of that Thanksgiving deliciousness! I know I’M officially over eating turkey for the rest of the year! Now we prepare ourselves for Christmas and all that comes with it: gifts, food, and more food.

So last week, my boss and his family introduced me to their favorite restaurant in town. He had done nothing but rant and rave about this place all week long, so you can imagine how eager I was to see if it was it that it was hyped up to be…and damn did it exceed my expectations!

Josie’s Pizza and Wings¬†is a local family-owned restaurant in MetroWest (Orlando, FL). From the outside of the restaurant, you don’t know what to expect. It’s directly next to a 7/11 gas station, and looks a little smaller. Let me just tell you not to judge a book by its cover because 1) It’s WAY bigger inside than it looks on the outside and 2) The vibes this place gives off are so warm and welcoming, you’ll want to stay for hours. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner who is also a very nice man. You can easily tell that he is all about good quality, good food, and good service.

My boss suggested we try some of the craft beers that Josie’s offered, so we got a bucket of 5 beers for a whopping $15! For the quality of beer, that’s an awesome price. unnamed-3

If you like darker beers with a lighter flavor, the Big Storm Wave Maker would be best for you!

Mama’s Little Yella Pils is a Pilsner that has a lighter flavor as well. Really tasty!

If you’re into IPA’s (which are way more hoppy), I would try the Hop Head Red. They also have a few other options for IPA’s. I personally don’t like IPA’s because they are way too bitter for my palette.

This Pumpkin ale is obviously seasonal,  but it was probably one of my favorite of the bunch. Plus every basic girl needs to have a Pumpkin Ale in her life at least once!

If you’re more of a fruity person, I would get the Abita Purple Haze. It’s light and fruity, but still really tasty.

After having quite the buzz and working up an appetite, our boss told us we should definitely go for a calzone, and we would all split some wings.

My boyfriend and I split the large “Josies’s” calzone which is stuffed with ¬†Italian sausage, green pepper, onions, black olives, pepperoni and mushrooms and is served with marinara sauce on the side.

 

This calzone is MASSIVE, so I would suggest splitting it with some people, or if you’re really hungry you can stuff your face with just it.

My boss then let me pick a couple of¬†sauce flavors for the wings. There were 5 adults, so we ordered 40 wings. I chose the Citrus Chipotle BBQ and Honey & Hot. His family usually orders the herbed butter garlic sauce¬†and a few plain mild wings with side of their homemade secret hot buffalo sauce. This sauce is SO necessary because it doesn’t taste like your average Frank’s Hot Sauce.

HEAVEN. IN. MY. MOUTH!!!!!!

These wings are LITERALLY the best wings in town! We even came back 4 days later to have them again! They have everything you’re looking for. Josie’s definitely doesn’t skimp you by serving tiny little chicken wings. These wings are big, crispy, crunch, and so freaking good!

You can tell that Josie’s doesn’t serve mediocre plates. They make sure every plate is perfect before bringing it out to their customers. There was no excess fat on the wings, and each and every single one was so crispy. NOT burnt, but crunchy with every bite. I can’t even choose a favorite flavor because they were all just so good!

Many of my friends who I brought back on Saturday were saying that PG’s in Kissimmee, FL were the best wings they had ever had UNTIL they came to Josie’s. Trust me when I say it’s worth every single cent spent.

When we came back on Saturday, my boyfriend and I decided to split a personal 10 inch cheese pizza. My favorite food is pizza, so when I¬†say someone’s pizza is yummy, you have to believe me.

Please forgive my picture quality. For an intimate atmosphere, Josie’s lights are dim.

The dough is light and fluffy, you can tell the cheese is fresh, and the sauce doesn’t overpower the pizza. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmm

¬†When I go back again (because I WILL be back), I’m going to give the specialty pizzas a try. Each time I saw a server bring out someone’s pie, I easily drooled.

If after reading this post it doesn’t want to make you head over to Josie’s (1225 S. Hiawassee Rd., Orlando, FL), then I can assure you you’re missing out on LIFE itself!

So. Many. Leftovers! What to do with them…

I’m not sure about anyone else, but my refrigerator is fully stocked with over 5 pans full of food from our Thanksgiving feast. I know for a fact that many of us get tired of eating turkey and potatoes for the next week and a half, so I came up with something to make that will definitely kick your leftovers up a notch!

Here are my Thanksgiving Dinner-In-One Rolls  

 
Everyone’s Thanksgiving dinner probably doesn’t look the same, so choose your favorite side dishes, take out that turkey, and grab a pack of crescent rolls from the store to make these bad boys. I know I personally had no energy to whip up homemade crescents, so sue me for using the store bought rolls #sorrynotsorry. 

  

I opted for the garlic mashed potatoes, the leftover cheese cubes, obviously the turkey, gravy, and I had leftover garlic cilantro olive oil from the potatoes. You can easily use sweet potatoes if that’s what you have, even some Mac and cheese if you want to get real creative. 

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Roll out yours crescent roll dough to prepare them for stuffing. You don’t have to warm up anything because they’ll be reheated once they are in the oven.   

Spread a layer of the potatoes into the crescent dough. This is the first layer because it would’ve been messy to close the rolls with a scoop of potatoes on top. Then add your turkey, a drizzle of gravy, and your cheese choice.   

Take each corner of the dough and bring to the center to secure the stuffing inside.  

 Now that you’ve successfully sealed these little rolls from heaven, time to add the garlic, cilantro olive oil mixture on top.  
 I also melted a tablespoon of unsalted butter and drizzled a little on each one after I added the olive oil mixture.   Bake them for 10-12 minutes, or until the crescents are golden.  

 

Let them cool for 5 minutes. Then enjoy!!

 
Thanksgiving Dinner-In-One Rolls

Yields 8 Crescent rolls 

Ingredients

1 package of crescent rolls (8 count)

Leftover turkey

Leftover garlic mashed potatoes 

Leftover gravy

Leftover cubed cheese

Olive oil mixture  (3 tbs olive oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, 2 tons chopped fresh cilantro)

1 tbsp unsalted butter 

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil. 

2. Pop open crescent rolls. Layer with potatoes, turkey, gravy, then cheese. 

3. To assemble roll, take each corner of crescent and bring to the middle. Place onto cookie sheet about an inch apart. Drizzle with olive oil and butter. 

4. Bake for 10-12 minuets or until golden brown. Let cool and enjoy!

Finally, the holiday that foodies look forward to most (or at least I do) is almost here! Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite days to dive into as much food as possible before I catch the “Itis” and go into a food coma for 24 hours.¬†From the time the oven goes on at 6:00 AM, it’s an instant drool fest until I can finally stuff my face. The agony of waiting to eat in a Puerto Rican household is similar to a child waiting to open their gifts on Christmas morning. Food is still being cooked at 7:00 PM, people are still filing through the door bringing in their dishes, and I’m hungry AF. Nonetheless it’s a holiday that revolves around food and things that you’re grateful for (although that’s every day of the year in my book).

There are so many different things that people can make for Thanksgiving, but I just want to name some of my favorites. I’ll be providing links to recipe’s I’ve found from some of my favorite food bloggers and hope to give you an idea of how you can contribute to your Thanksgiving feast!

Roasted Turkey with Herbed Butter and Roasted Shallots

I like this recipe in particular because of the fresh herbs flavor in the butter that makes the turkey moist and full of flavor. The roasted shallots used in a gravy is killer!

I personally HATE the flavor and consistency of stuffing. It’s mushy and really not good. Every year someone puts a scoop on my plate, and every year I stare at it confused as to how anyone really enjoys eating it.

This year, I’m making a stuffing that I think everyone who agrees with me will enjoy. If you like plantains, you like flavor, and ¬†you trust me, use this recipe my mom showed me. I’ll be making a variation of it to make it more my style, but this is a great basic recipe!

Mini Pumpkin Pies

This is for all you basic bishes out there who have been counting down the days for unlimited pumpkin pie! These are the perfect portion to be able to enjoy dessert after stuffing your face to the brim.

I make these all the time, and they’re seriously addicting. This one isn’t my recipe, but it’s damn near close to it. These are also the perfect size.

How being groovy draws me in…

What’s up foodies!

This post is a little different than the others. I usually am completely absorbed by food alone, but today I want to show you all this place that I didn’t even have to dine at to enjoy.

I’m not one to judge a book my its cover. The restaurant doesn’t have to be luxurious to capture my attention. I actually prefer to dine at low-key diners and dives. So many restaurants are overlooked because of their location, outside appearance, or even small things like the choice of font for their company’s name. Well I always drove by this place labeled as “The Coffee Shop” while on my way to work. I’ve always wondered what was inside and what kind of food they served (if any). Finally, I mentioned it to my boss, and we decided to head over for lunch. He claimed that their sandwiches were amazing, so I had to see for myself.

At first when you walk up to the entrance, you feel a little sketched out because of how small and under-the-radar this place is. Turns out it’s not called “The Coffee Shop”, but instead “Achilles Art Cafe“. Immediately when I¬†walked through the door, I was calm, cool, and collective. Despite any drama, work stress, or mood you’re in, everything seems to dissipate at the door step and all is groovy. By groovy, I mean this…..

The mellow tunes, the dimly lit atmosphere, the smiling employees. Everything your heart desires in a place you can go to when everything in the world seems overwhelming (which this day it definitely was). I was so distracted just soaking in all the vibes this place offered, I forgot I was there to even eat! I started first by grabbing a brew.

My really good friend Joy introduced me to all different types of beer. I strongly encourage everyone to put their basic Blue Moon’s down and try this Hefeweizen (he-fe-vy-sen).

Here is the menu with the food options, as the website doesn’t have the full list. The other side had coffees, teas, etc.

I chose to go with the tuna sandwich, except I don’t necessarily enjoy canned tuna, so I substituted that for chicken.

I enjoyed the components which made up this sammy. Although it was extremely messy to eat (I had to use a fork and knife half way through), it was pretty good!

I have to have something spicy on my food to feel complete, so I asked for sriracha. They were all out, so they were courteous enough to bring out buffalo sauce instead in this adorable serving dish:5b3e9bd7-4b60-4005-a53e-35ca21c4e644

I was also curious when I saw they offered a side of parmesan fries, so I decided to order them as well (sorry not sorry).84a01f7b-51c6-418c-96ff-d8e89883eae1

The fries were nice and crunchy. The main fault was that I could tell they used grated parmesan cheese from the plastic canister. If you’re going to label an item with the star being “parmesan”, I think it’s important that you use fresh REAL parmesan!

Overall, I was pleased with my experience at Achilles. Such an awesome place to go with a small group of friends to wind down, smoke some hookah (which they also offered), crack open a brew, and enjoy each other’s company. I’ll definitely be back soon!
